Jerrold D. Colton

Mr. Colton is licensed to practice law in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and has over 30 years experience practicing in diversified areas of law.

Mr. Colton has vast trial experience in both civil and criminal matters. He has represented many clients in a variety of areas of civil practice, with an emphasis on those who have wrongfully suffered injuries.

In the area of criminal law, Mr. Colton has served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Camden County, New Jersey, as well as a Municipal Prosecutor in several Camden County Municipalities. He was also the chair of the Camden County Bar Association’s Municipal Court Committee for several years, and successfully argued cases before the New Jersey Appellate Court.

Mr. Colton has also worked extensively as a sports and entertainment agent/attorney for the past three decades. He is a certified agent by both the National Football League and National Hockey League Players Associations, and has negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars worth of playing contracts for a multitude of professional athlete clients. Further, he has represented athletes in many arbitrations before professional sports league, national and international governing bodies.

A frequent guest lecturer mostly on sports/legal issues, Mr. Colton has taught as a Visiting Professor of Sports Law at both the Rutgers University School of Law and Temple University. He also appears regularly on various television and radio networks as an expert on sports business and legal issues.

Mr. Colton has served on the Board of Trustees or Directors of several non-profit foundations including the Boomer Esiason Foundation and Camden County Bar Association. He was the New Jersey Governor’s Appointee to the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (1997-2001), and served as the Bice-Chairperson (1998-1999) and the Chairperson (1999-2000), and on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Sports Hall of Fame (2001-03).

Mr. Colton received his law degree from the Rutgers University School of Law in 1987, and admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey (1987), Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1987), United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (1987), Supreme Court of the United States (1992) and United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (1996).

He has been named Best Sports Lawyer by South Jersey Magazine, New Jersey Super Lawyer for Sports Representation, Awesome Attorney for Sports Law by South Jersey Magazine and received the Awesome Attorney Award.
