Government & Regulatory Affairs

Goverment and Regulatory Affairs

Our Government and Regulatory affairs team has over 65 years of experience working closely with State, County, regional, and municipal governments and authorities, in many roles and in many different practice areas, including as general counsel, labor counsel, bond counsel and special counsel on environmental issues, land use matters, insurance and litigation matters, and workers’ compensation matters. Through our extensive experience with all levels of government entities, the firm has developed an appreciation of the challenges that are faced by government entities and their governing bodies. We also understand the unique opportunities and limitations that exist in the various statutes under which governments operate, such as the Local Budget Law, the Local Bond Law, the Local Public Contracts Law, the Local Land and Buildings Law, the Municipal and County Utilities Authority Law, the Local Authorities Fiscal Control Law, the Municipal Land Use Law, and the County Planning Act. We also understand the fiscal responsibilities that government entities bear and the need to present creative solutions to the legal issues with which government entities are faced. With our extensive local and regional government client base, our attorneys in our firm remain current in the legal issues that affect and impact local governments. Our firm is committed to representing government entities and to providing superior legal services to all of our local government clients. Malamut & Associates attorneys will also, as necessary, provide a wide range of additional services for the Authority.

Litigation

Malamut & Associates boasts an active litigation practice encompassing the full realm of business and legal disputes. Our trial attorneys are seasoned counselors and advisors who provide strategic thinking and decision-making to assist clients in reaching their business objectives. The broad spectrum of our litigation experience helps us respond concisely and in a timely manner to provide practical solutions to our clients’ legal problems. Our Litigation Department attorneys represent clients regionally and nationally in a wide array of matters in federal and state trial and appellate courts, and before regulatory and administrative agencies. In addition to trial work, our attorneys call upon the talents and experience of our other attorneys in representing and counseling our business, commercial, environmental, fiduciary and governmental clients. The depth of skill and experience of other practice areas is an invaluable tool when litigation matters involve varying substantive areas of law. Focusing on what’s most beneficial for our clients, Malamut & Associate's Litigation Department attorneys are dedicated to exploring alternatives to active litigation before heading into the courtroom. Where appropriate, our lawyers encourage adversarial parties to initially avoid litigation and entertain alternative methods for resolving their disputes including direct negotiation, mediation or arbitration. Recognizing the expense and resources involved in moving a business dispute into the courtroom, our trial attorneys carefully deliberate on whether litigation is the best advised method of resolving disputes. Once the decision has been made to litigate, however, our attorneys aggressively pursue a favorable disposition through dispositive motion practice, or if necessary, a verdict at trial.
